Local Projects Database
The aftermath of the tragic Asian Tsunami in late 2004 showed the world how a lack of information on the activities of different aid and relief groups can have serious consequences.

Development Gateway has created a Local Projects Database (LPD) software tool to support the information sharing needs of local organizations and groups. LPD has been used by organizations in Colombia, Mauritania, Mongolia, Morocco, Poland, Romania and the USA.

Low-Cost Information Sharing for Better Coordination

LPD helps organizations create a basic Web site where multiple parties can enter standard project summary data, contact information, start and end dates, and more. It is freely available under open source licensing at www.sourceforge.com, a Web site for open-source software projects. This means that Development Gateway does not control the software code, and organizations can tailor it to local requirements. Our Country Gateway partner in Romania has helped more than one organization do this.

Recognized Standards

LPD is based on the recognized standards and information-sharing platform of AiDA, our global online aid directory. Data entered into an individual LPD can be harvested into AiDA.
