Jean-Louis Sarbib


Chief Executive Officer, Development Gateway


Jean Louis SarbibJean-Louis Sarbib joined the board of the Development Gateway in 2004 and was elected chair in 2008. In March 2009, the board asked him to serve as chief executive officer.

Mr. Sarbib came to the Development Gateway after a long career at the World Bank. Mr. Sarbib joined the World Bank in 1980 to work on Africa. During his 26 years at the World Bank, Mr. Sarbib held several senior level positions, including vice president for Africa and vice president for the Middle East and North Africa. In 2003, he was appointed to his last position as senior vice president for the Human Development Network.

A French national, Mr. Sarbib also serves on the boards of The Micronutrient Initiative, World Links for Development, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and The International Center for Conciliation. He is a non-resident senior fellow at the Wolfensohn Center for Development at the Brookings Institution and an adviser to the chairman of Wolfensohn & Company.
