The resource collection on Monitoring and Evaluation of ICT Projects now includes more than 1,000 entries. While the topic page’s search engine and it’s set of “key issues” are helpful, if you want to find something in the database a second time you better bookmark it. While you can do so using your browser, a better bet might be a bookmark manager – and there are a number available. A good description of these websites is available on the appropriately titled “Free Bookmark Managers.”
An advantage of external bookmarks is, of course, that you can access them from any computer, and so use them at home, at the office, or anywhere you have an Internet connection. Bookmark managers also offer the ability to add descriptions to your bookmarks, to tag bookmarks with labels putting them into categories, and to use a search engine to locate one among your bookmarks. When you have hundreds of bookmarks, these services are helpful; when you have thousands, as some people do, they become essential.
Social bookmarking allows bookmarks to be shared with others. Social bookmark managers permit you easily to copy a bookmark someone else has saved, and to monitor the new entries made by selected colleagues and friends. One of the benefits of the del.icio.us bookmark manager is that it shows the number of individuals who have bookmarked each URL, providing a potentially useful indicator of the value of the bookmarked site.
Barbara Fillip, an expert on ICT project evaluation, has a social bookmarking website, using the FURL bookmark manager. It too has more than 500 entries. Barbara is an evaluation expert, and her site provides links to useful references on monitoring and evaluation of ICT projects.
I have also created a social bookmarking site (using del.icio.us) and invite you all to use it. In it I have saved links to more than 500 websites, and the collection continues to grow. Many of my bookmarks deal with information and communications technology for development (tagged ICT4Dev); others deal more generally with science and technology for development (tagged S&T4Dev) and knowledge for development (K4Dev). One of the nice features about del.icio.us is that it links easily to one’s blog (see instructions). You can see how I have done so on my blog (in the lower portion of the blog’s right hand column).
Technorati, the search engine for blogs, also supports tags. It will track tags from bookmarks on both del.icio.us and FURL, and also from blogs that have provided the service. Thus, there is another means of finding interesting information.
I would like to invite the members of the community formed around this topic page to join me in social bookmarking. Moreover, if any of you are willing, I will post a link to your bookmarking site on our topic page to be shared with others. Send me the address of the site at this address: STConsultant@Yahoo.com

Welcome. This website provides resources on monitoring and evaluation. It will serve those working on information and communications technology (ICT) for Development especially well. However, there are many resources that would be useful to others serving developing nations. While this website was first designed to serve the needs of the Development Gateway Foundation, everyone is welcome to use the resources. Resources are included dealing with M&E indicators and methods and the conceptual framework for evaluation. There are also links to most donor agency evaluation websites. Monitoring and evaluation are important because of our faith in evidence based decision making. In keeping with this faith, the resource collection contains case studies, evaluations, and collections of case studies. Please add new M&E resources to our database. Join as a member and receive alerts on new resources. -Click on a Key Issue (left column) to see a list of related resources. -Select from the region/country views (left column) to see the corresponding resources. -Check on jobs and job sites (right column).
