Open Source Software

Open source software, or software with limited or no intellectual property restrictions, offers an alternative to conventional proprietary software. It is developed through the collaborative effort of a large and active developer community around the world. Development Gateway uses open source software which considerably reduces software development costs.

Open Standards

Common definitions and standards will facilitate the exchange of information on development activities. The International Development Markup Language (IDML) is one example of a common format that will allow donors to better coordinate aid efforts and increase transparency. IDML forms the basis of the aid management platform and AidData.

Development Gateway also supports the International Aid Transparency Initiative through its participation on the steering and technical committees.
